Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer OFM, Conv. distributed more than 20 religious emblems at the annual Scout Convocation May 7 at the Villa Marie Center in Savannah. This year American Heritage Girls and Girl Scouts from six diocesan troops and Boy Scouts from 11 diocesan packs and troops received religious awards. Courtney Anderson, Kaitlyn Hammonds, Julianna and Vannessa Salinas, all members of Girl Scout Troop 60029, based in Kathleen, earned their Silver Award, the second highest award that a USA Girl Scout Cadette can earn. Two adults also received the Bronze Pelican award while Father Jason Adams, the diocesan scout chaplain, received the St. George emblem. The Diocese of Savannah also received the Quality Diocese Award from the National Catholic Committee on Scouting in 2015. At the annual convocation, scouts also performed skits for the bishop and their families and played games. Hotdogs and hamburgers were served by members of local Catholic War Veterans Post 1943.
